Småland 3075 - Charming soldier's croft with a quiet location in the countryside

The house is very quiet by a small gravel road, only a few cars pass here per day - there is no through traffic due to the location. We have a large orchard and also some herbs growing here and you can walk directly from the yard into the forest. Our boat, a reliable aluminum rowing boat, is moored at Lake Åboda.

You enter the house via an open vestibule with benches on both sides, and enter a small, inviting hallway painted in pink, from which the door to the blue and white bedroom leads out to the left. The bedroom is equipped with a mirror, wardrobe and dresser as well as a double bed consisting of 2 single beds (90 cm x 200 cm). A fantastic old tiled  wood burning stove heats up the room when it's needed!

The door on the right leads into the living room. There is also a tiled wood burning stove here. A wonderfully soft sofa and the two rocking chairs form a cozy seating area. There is a table with 4 chairs by the front window. Next to it is a shelf with everything to keep you busy on rainy days (such as children's books and novels in German, Danish and Swedish, various board games, a box of Legos and other toys).

Our day bed is in the living room - perfect for relaxing or reading during the day and as a cozy single bed with a comfortable mattress (90 cm x 200) at night.

The blue and white bedroom and living room lead to the kitchen/living room. It has a large window facing the back garden (the morning sun shines through at breakfast) and a large old bench and 4 chairs invite you to eat together. The kitchen was completely remodeled in 2013 and is fully equipped with a large fridge-freezer, electric stove with oven, toaster, coffee maker and kettle, as well as sufficient work surfaces for cooking together. There are plenty of pots, pans and plates.

From the kitchen you reach the bathroom, here there is a shower with a shower curtain, a sink, a cabinet for storing hygiene products, a toilet and a washing machine.

A staircase with a handrail leads to the upper floor. There is a small cozy play area with Legos. On the right wall in the corridor there is a bunk bed for an adult or up to 2 children (mattress 90 x 200). At the front we have an open room with a dresser and a sleeping loft for 2 (futon 160 x 200) and at the back there is another bedroom with a dresser and a double bed (originally handmade, from the 19th century) and bedside tables (2 x 90 x 200).

There is a large cherry tree with a swing in front of the house, where you can sit comfortably outside in the afternoon. Further down is the shed, where you will find the bikes, the barbeque grill, the outdoor games and next to it you will find the wood for the wood burning stoves.

The upper garden with various fruit plants (cherries, various apples), rhubarb, an herb bed (lavender, sedum, oregano, chives), strawberries, currants, tall raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and gooseberries and a dry birch grove with a hammock is behind the house - this is where the garden furniture is in the summer. Here is also our fireplace with wooden chairs.

The lower garden, bounded by a typical Småland stone wall, is where hazelnuts, chestnuts and walnuts grow (all still very young) and: our sauna will be built here!

At Lake Åboda (about 800-1200 meters from the cabin) is our boat, a robust rowing boat in blue and red aluminium. We already have a fishing license so you can go out on the lake right away and put your fishing luck to the test - in the lake there are pike, perch and roach. A boat trip is also suitable for non-sport fishermen. There is also a swimming area by the lake with a jetty, changing room and fireplace.

These are our recommendation if you want to go on a day trip:

Take our rowing boat and conquer Lake Åboda (you will find a detailed description of its location in the guest folder).

You can visit one of the wonderful swimming spots, very close by: Åboda, Sörsjön, Sjöanäs, a little further away but really beautiful (and with canoe rental): Grunnen

Fiolen nature reserve is right next door and can be easily biked around.

Visit one of the old churches in Slätthog or Harlöv.

Visit Store Mosse national park, a swamp landscape through which you can walk on wooden planks, about 45 minutes by car

It takes about 1 hour to drive to the northern gate to Småland's Crystal Kingdom (Målerås and Kosta).

Grönåsen's Moose Park is a nice excursion destination, located about 80 km southeast.

The safari park in Kosta, about 80 km away.

It is almost 15 miles, about 2 hours by car, to Astrid Lindgren World in Vimmerby. A pleasant experience,

With a total length of 3.3 kilometers, the zipline at "Little Rock Lake" in southeastern Småland is the longest zipline of its kind in Europe - it's "almost around the corner", about 1 hour's drive.

To the west (of course ;) is the western town of High Chaparral, about an hour's drive

From Ohs, a steam-powered narrow-gauge railway runs in the middle of the forest.

At Nydala am Rusken, you can hike the Munkaleden, an old monk's path with places for meditation in nature.

Rusken is also home to Moens Gård, a wonderful nature reserve.

On the road from Moheda towards Växjö you will find several "Loppis" (flea and antique markets) - much of the decor in this house comes from there, perfect for buying souvenirs from Sweden.

On the way to Alvesta there is a ( plane) glider field and a golf course.

There is the fairy tale museum in Ljungby, there are many places in the whole region that have fairy tales as their theme - more information can be found in the guest folder.

The cities of Växjö (40 km), Kalmar (150 km, the gateway to Öland), Jönköping (100 km, at the southern end of Lake Vättern).

In Gränna (130 km) there is the famous Polkagris /Candy Cane production and you can also take the ferry to Visingsö and visit the old fortress.

There are many nice farm cafes nearby, just around the corner is "bei der Pferdefrau", a place with hearty dishes in Möcklehult (near Grunnen's swimming area, see above).

It often snows less here in the winter and more in the spring - there are some slopes in the Hanaslöv ski area south of Alvesta.

In the north of Växjö there is a nice nature reserve with a tugboat and a circular walk across an island near the castle.
