About Stockholm in Sweden

Stockholm, Sweden

If you’re renting a cabin in the area of Stockholm then you’re staying in the middle/south part of Sweden at the outlet of Lake Mälaren.

Stockholm borders Södermanland in the south and Uppland in the north.

Stockholm archipelago is located on the east side of Stockholm, with over 30 000 islands, Stockholm archipelago is one of the richest archipelagos with the most islands in the world. Imagine a picnic on the dock outside your rented cabin of choice with a view over the archipelago, or why not try your luck fishing at sunset.

The Royal Palace and changing of the guard

The Royal Palace in Stockholm is his majesty the king’s official residence and this is also where much of the monarchy’s representation and receptions takes place.

This combination of royal residence, workplace and culture-historical monument open year round to visitors makes the Royal Palace of Stockholm unique amongst Europe's royal residences.

The palace is built in baroque style by the architect Nicodemus Tessin and is formed as a Roman palace. The palace has more than 600 rooms divided between eleven floors with a state apartment facing the city and smaller living rooms facing the inner courtyard.

The palace contains many interesting things to see. In addition to the Royal Apartments there are three museums steeped in regal history: the Treasury with the regalia, the Tre Kronor Museum that portrays the palaces medieval history and Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities.

Changing of the guards

The changing of the guards is a popular tourist attraction and something we recommend for you to attend. You can view the changing of the guard at the outer courtyard of the Palace. The Royal Guards Ceremony at the Royal Palace of Stockholm lasts about 40 minutes. It starts at 12:15pm in the palace outer courtyard on weekdays, and at 1:15pm on Sundays.

The old town

The old town of Stockholm is one of Europe’s largest and best preserved medieval city centers. The old town is definitely one of Stockholm’s main attractions, here you’ll find many attractions, sights and shopping, many cute and cozy shops with art work and souvenirs. Here is also an abundance of restaurants, bars and cafes’. The narrow cobblestone alleys with houses in many shades of yellow gives this town a unique character.

Djurgården

During your Stockholm vacation you should definitely visit Djurgården. Here you’ll find several interesting museum such as the Vasa museum, The Nordic Museum, The ABBA museum, the Biological museum, the Maritime museum, the Spirits museum & The Absolut Art Collection and of course Skansen.

Skansen

Skansen is the world’s oldest open-air museum and at the same time it is houses Stockholm zoo.

Skansen is a perfect family outing during your vacation. Here you can visit a historic Sweden in miniature and at the same time learn more about Swedish traditions and traditional crafts. There are 150 houses and farm buildings from different parts of Sweden, these houses has been dismantled and transported Skansen where it’s then rebuilt.

Daytrips in the archipelago

We recommend our guests in Stockholm to take a trip through Stockholm archipelago. There are many different trips and tours to choose from, everything from daytrips to cozy evening trips. It’s a fantastic experience with fresh ocean air and a view of many of its islands. During the different boat excursions you can make stops and find bars and taverns, and beaches and islands to explore on your own.

Cruises

Did you know that you can combine your vacation in Stockholm with a cruise to for example Finland or Åland? Our cabins are rented out on a weekly basis, from Saturday to Saturday and it can be well worth it to extend your vacation with a cruise through the archipelago.
