Fishing holidays on Sweden’s lakes

Sweden is an angler’s dream. Hundreds of lakes offer excellent fishing spots – directly from shore or by boat. Many of our lakeside cabins already include a rowing boat in the rental price. Before you cast your line, keep these tips in mind:

  • Safety first: Always wear a life jacket when on the water.
  • Know the rules: Some waters have restricted areas or closed seasons – check before you fish.
  • Fishing licence: In most lakes you’ll need a Fiskekort (fishing permit), available locally or online.
  • Ask locals: Tackle shops often give the best advice on gear, bait, and hotspots – and many rent out equipment at good prices.

Top tip: After a day by the water, relax in your private sauna with lake views. Use the filter “Sauna” in the search to find the best options.

Swimming & water fun

There are over 96,000 lakes in Sweden, many with crystal-clear water and sandy bottoms. They warm up faster than the sea, making them ideal for families with children. Most towns have public bathing areas (“badplats”), but your own jetty or small beach is often even better. Remember to supervise children and respect private properties while swimming.

Pro tip: Use the search filter “Distance to water” to select your preferred distance – from under 100 m up to 5 km.
