You can find the province of Jämtland in the northern parts of Sweden, this area invites you to a mountain world, many of our cabins here are log cabins, cabins divided into apartments and real Swedish mountain cabins. Here you are met by a beautiful mountain landscape which in some places is rocky with many shrubs and smaller trees. There is also a lot of forest, beautiful lakes and a relaxing nature. Jämtland has several museums, exhibitions and festivals. The largest festival is Storsjöyran, which is held in July in Östersund every year. Östersund is Jämtland's only city and is located by Storsjön (the big lake), Jämtland also has many small and charming tourist resorts along the mountain region, and this is where most of our cabins are located.
Jämtland borders the provinces of Härjedalen, Medelpad, Ångermanland, Lapland and the country of Norway.
Jämtland has many nice tourist resorts where the cabins are surrounded by ski slopes and the mountain world of Sweden. The most popular is Åre municipality, to name a few other popular tourist facilities and places worth a visit, we have Edsåsdalen, Trillevallen, Järpen, Storlien, Vålådalen, Storulvån and Bydalen.
During the winter, Jämtland attracts many ski enthusiasts, especially from Sweden and Norway. Cabins are rented here in connection with both downhill skiing and cross-country ski trails, these ski resorts are very popular and attract many tourists. The cabins located in the mountains have their peak season during the winter because that’s when the ski resorts are filled with activities, after ski, snowmobiling, dog sledding and everything else the snow can offer. In many parts of Sweden, especially southern Sweden, snow is rare and the lack of ski slopes is obvious, which is why the mountain world in Sweden is so popular.
During the summer, the cottages in Jämtland offer long wonderful summer nights. This province attracts people to explore the long fine hiking trails over the mountains and open landscape - a wonderful feeling of freedom. Many of the slalom/downhill slopes around the cabins change drastically during the summer and become adapted for downhill cycling and similar activities. Around our cabins in Jämtland there are also plenty of fishing in untouched wilderness, these fishing cabins are perfect for both professionals and recreational fishermen. Here in the mountain world, the fish are a little more alert than in the rest of the country due to cooler water that seeps down from the mountains. In many of our cabins in Jämtland you will have access to a boat, or to rent somewhere nearby.
Around our cabins in the western part of Jämtland there are very nice golf courses with wonderful panoramic views. There are also many craft shops and you just have to try the homemade flatbread that is known from this area.
When you rent a cabin in Jämtland, we recommend a trip to the city of Östersund. Here you have cozy alleys lined with small shops that invite to shopping among handicrafts and utensils. On the major streets you will find the chain stores. This mixture makes the shopping in Östersund different and suits most people.
Outside Östersund is the Jamtli open-air museum, which takes you on a journey to the 18th and 19th centuries. Here are cultural-historical environments and buildings, houses, cabins and shops so you can experience how people lived in the past. It is reminiscent of the time reflected in Astrid Lindgren's films and children's books.
Storsjön is Sweden's fifth largest lake, the largest island in the lake is Frösön. On Frösön there is the popular Frösö zoo with animals, Tropical House, Museum and amusement park. The island is connected by a bridge to the mainland. We currently have no cabins on Frösön, however we do have a couple of cabins in the close proximity.
Boat traffic on Storsjön is widespread and the lake has excellent fishing. As one of the largest lakes in Sweden, there’s no permits needed to fish here. The most mythical story involving Storsjön is the sea monster that according to Jämtland folklore lives in the lake.
The area surrounding the main lake is called Storsjöbygden. About half of Jämtland's population live in houses and cabins near and around Storsjön, there are also many who have their summer cabins here. Storsjöbygden and Storsjön are an oasis of the wilderness, surrounded by high mountains in the west and large forest areas in the east.
Exciting day trip destinations recommended are Tännforsen - Sweden's highest waterfall, and one of the large caves, such as the Coral Cave which is Sweden's largest.
Fall is more or less here, the days are getting shorter and the evenings are starting to get a little chilly, but with that also comes the fall markets. The fall markets are a fun tradition in Sweden and something that a lot of people enjoy and like to visit, make sure you visit a fall market near your rented vacation home while visiting Sweden.
